The Volkswagen Jetta is a C-segment sedan designed as a sensible family sedan with loads of room and comfort. The Jetta was launched in Malaysia in 2011 in CBU form (fully imported) and was later locally assembled (CKD) starting in 2014 before being discontinued in 2018. It goes up against other sedans in the segment such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3.
Variants
There was only one variant of the Volkswagen Jetta, and that was the Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI Highline.
Pricing
The price of a new Volkswagen Jetta in Malaysia when it was still being manufactured in 2018 was around RM135,400.
Colors Available
The Volkswagen Jetta was offered in four colors which are Candy White, Deep Black, Platinum Grey, and Reflex Silver.
Interior
The interior of the Volkswagen Jetta has a premium design with full leather upholstery, a cockpit oriented toward the driver, and well-designed, soft touch-points. Interior features include map lights, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-start button, a front center armrest with a deep storage compartment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with hands-free controls, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Exterior
On the exterior, the Volkswagen Jetta has a modern, conservative design with classic proportions. It has LED lighting all around with automatic high-beam LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Lastly, it has 17-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Cabin Space
The Volkswagen Jetta measures 4,659 mm long, 1,778 mm wide, and 1,453 mm tall. Its storage capacity is 510 liters which is expandable by folding down the 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
Infotainment system
The Volkswagen Jetta comes with a choice of a 6.5-inch or an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Standard features include two USB ports, WiFi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. The basic 6.5-inch touchscreen system is paired with four speakers. The upgraded 8-inch touchscreen system, on the other hand, has wireless device charging and an eight-speaker audio system.
The Jetta is powered by a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged engine which produces 147 PS of power at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm. This gives the car a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 8.5 seconds and a fuel economy of 5.0 L/100 km. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Volkswagen Jetta is well equipped with all the safety features necessary in a modern sedan. Besides the standard safety features like ABS and EBD, it has six airbags, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic High Beam, and a rear-view camera.
The Volkswagen Jetta is a well-priced C-segment sedan with plenty of passenger and cargo space, a comfortable ride quality, and a fuel-efficient engine. Although it doesn’t have the most exciting design and driving characteristics, it makes for a good executive and family sedan for buyers looking for a comfortable, sensible car.
