The Toyota Corolla has been the best-selling car worldwide several times including in 2020. Introduced in 1996, it’s now in its 12th generation. While it was previously called the Toyota Corolla Altis in Malaysia, it’s now simply the Toyota Corolla. This C-segment sedan goes against competitors like the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.

There are two variants of the Toyota Corolla sedan in Malaysia: The Toyota Corolla 1.8E and Toyota Corolla 1.8G.

Colors Available

The Toyota Corolla is available in five colors. They are Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, Celestite Grey Metallic, and Attitude Black.

Toyota Corolla Basic Features

Interior

The interior of the Toyota Corolla has a modern and sleek design. For starters, it has a smart entry and push start system, Optitron meter with analog and digital display options, 7-inch color TFT Multi-Information Display (MID), an all-black interior, leather with double stitching seats, leather gear shift lever, as well as a three-spoke leather and tilt-adjustable steering wheel with audio, MID, telephone, adaptive cruise control and lane tracing assist controls.

There is also automatic climate control with rear air conditioning vents, Sport and Eco Drive Mode switch, electrochromic rearview mirror, time adjustable windshield wipers with intermittent and mist functions, illuminated entry system with push-start button and room lights, as well as auto up/down power windows with jam protection. Additional features that aren’t common in the segment are a wireless phone charger, digital video recorder, 3D panoramic view monitor, and a portable tire pump.

Exterior

Toyota Corolla Driving Performance 

The engine on the Toyota Corolla is a 2ZR-FE 1.8 L, 4-cylinder Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i). It produces a max power of 139 PS at 6,400 rpm and a max torque of 172 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic Mode. It’s also built on top of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) which gives it a very stable, comfortable ride on the road. The Corolla has a fuel consumption of 7.8 L/100 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds.

Toyota Corolla Safety Features

The Toyota Corolla is well equipped with modern safety features and even the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). However, TSS is only available on the higher 1.8G variant. Safety features shared by both the 1.8E and 1.8G variants include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake (EPB) with automatic brake hold, Tire Pressure Warning System (TPMS), seven SRS airbags, 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts with pretensioner and force limiter, seat belt warning for all seats, and ISOFIX.

Features in the TSS safety suite are Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist (SA) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM).
