Toyota Avanza Overview

For years, the Toyota Avanza has been a popular vehicle for buyers looking for a budget, seven-seater multipurpose vehicle (MPV). Since it was introduced in Malaysia in 2012, the Toyota Avanza has not gone through major changes other than two facelifts and its age is showing. It competes against other MPVs like the Honda BR-V and Perodua Aruz.

There are three variants of the Toyota Avanza in Malaysia. They are the Toyota Avanza 1.5E, 1.5S, and 1.5S+.

Colors Available

The Toyota Avanza is available in four colors. They are Super White II, Silver Mica Metallic, Dark Red Mica Metallic, and Black Metallic.

Toyota Avanza Basic Features

Interior

The interior of the Toyota Avanza has a basic layout that reflects its price. It has a 3-spoke, urethane, tilt-adjustable steering wheel with audio switches, chrome inner door handles, fabric seats, a sport combination meter with a multi-information display (MID), air conditioning with digital controllers, USB charging ports, and a front digital video recorder (DVR). 

It also has bag hooks, emergency and luggage kits, 11 cup holders, a portable tire pump, as well as power windows with auto up/down and jam protection on the driver’s side.

Exterior

The Toyota Avanza has bi-LED headlamps, LED front fog lamps, and an LED stop lamp mounted on the roof spoiler. It also has electric retractable wing mirrors with turn signals, as well as speed-sensitive intermittent front and rear wipers. Styling elements on the Avanza include body-colored door handles and a shark fin antenna.

Cabin Space

Toyota Avanza Driving Performance 

All variants of the Toyota Avanza are powered by a 1.5-liter, 2NR-VE engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. It produces a max power of 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and a max torque of 136 Nm at 4,200 rpm. The Avanza accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds and has a fuel consumption of 6.1 L/100 km.

Toyota Avanza Safety Features

The Toyota Avanza does not have the most advanced safety features in the segment, which is a sign of its age. Its list of safety tech include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), reverse sensors, ISOFIX tethers, and a collapsible steering column.

The Toyota Avanza has been in Malaysia for 10 years without a major update and it shows in its level of equipment. However, it still is a reliable, spacious, and versatile vehicle that will serve you well.
