Toyota Alphard Overview

The Toyota Alphard is Toyota’s top-of-the-line luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). It was previously only available in Malaysia through parallel importers until UMW Toyota started officially importing it into the country in 2014. With its high level of refinement, advanced features, and lack of competitors in the segment, the Toyota Alphard has become the leader of the luxury MPV segment in Malaysia.

There is only one variant of the Toyota Alphard offered in Malaysia which is the Toyota Alphard 3.5 L.

The price of a new Toyota Alphard in Malaysia starts at RM446,609, which is quite a hefty sum. However, it does offer a lot in terms of interior space, comfort, safety features, and performance.

Colors Available

There are four colors available on the Toyota Alphard. They are Black, White Pearl, Graphite Metallic, and Luxury White Pearl.

Toyota Alphard Basic Features

Interior

With its high price tag, the Toyota Alphard doesn’t disappoint when it comes to its luxurious interior finishing and features. The four-spoke steering wheel has wood grain finishing while also being leather-wrapped. It also has audio, telephone, voice recognition, adaptive cruise control, and lane tracing assist switches. Other interior features include an Optitron sport combination meter with a 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display (MID), chrome door handles, wireless phone charger, metallic ornament LED ceiling illumination, smart entry and start system, front and rear air conditioning vents with nano-e technology, and an ECO drive mode. 

Additionally, it has reading lamps for passengers, a manual sunshade, beige leather power seats with an extendable ottoman for the front passenger, ventilated seats at the front, powered first-row captain seats with ottoman, 50:50 split second-row seats, a digital video recorder (dashcam), and a panoramic view monitor.

Exterior

On the exterior, the Toyota Alphard has a bold, commanding presence with its large front grille and flowing body lines. Lighting is handled by LEDs all around. It has LED auto-leveling headlamps with cornering lamps, daytime running lights (DRLs), sequential turn signal lamps, LED front fog lamps, and driving lamps, as well as LED rear fog lamps. The rear spoiler also has an integrated LED high-mount stomp lamp. The side rearview mirrors have turn signal lamps and are power-foldable with memory functions. Additionally, the Alphard also has a sunroof and moonroof as well as auto rain sensor wipers.

Cabin Space

The Toyota Alphard is a large MPV that measures 4,945 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,895 mm tall. It has a luggage capacity of 148-liters which is expandable with the 50:50 split foldable second-row seats. Despite having such large dimensions, the Alphard has a decent turning radius of 5.8 m making it quite easy to maneuver in the city.

Infotainment system

The infotainment in the Toyota Alphard is handled by a 10.5-inch touch screen display audio system with navigation, a DVD player, radio tuner, USB, SD card, and Bluetooth connectivity. Audio is piped into the cabin through 17 JBL speakers for an immersive listening experience. Also, there’s a 13.3-inch roof-mounted monitor for the entertainment of the rear passengers.

Toyota Alphard Driving Performance 

The Toyota Alphard is powered by a 2GR-FKS, 3.5L V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing Intelligent Wide (VVT-iW) on the intake and VVT-i on the exhaust. It produces a max power of 300 PS at 6,000 rpm and a max torque of 361 Nm at 4,600 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission with a sequential shifter. The Alphard has a fuel consumption of 9.9 L/100 km and a 0 to 100 acceleration time of 8.3 seconds.

Toyota Alphard Safety Features

The safety features in the Toyota Alphard are befitting of its price. It has all the standard safety features expected in a modern car as well as the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). It’s equipped with seven SRS airbags, ISOFIX tether, front and rear parking sensors with parking support braking, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control System (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), and Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with Brake Hold.

Advanced safety features in the TSS suite include Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) for all speeds, and Automatic High Beam. Other security features include an alarm system with immobilizer, siren with a backup battery and cabin sensors, premium security and solar film, as well as a vehicle telematics system (VTS).
