Perodua Aruz Overview

The Perodua Aruz is a seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV) that aims to be a versatile and affordable family car. It’s based on the Toyota Rush and shares the same engine as well as mechanical parts with the Rush. However, the Perodua Aruz has a lower price point and additional features that have made it a hit with Malaysian buyers.

Perodua Aruz Variants

There are only two variants of the Perodua Aruz in Malaysia; the Aruz 1.5 X and 1.5 AV. Both variants are powered by a 1.5L engine mated to an automatic transmission.

Perodua Aruz Pricing

The price of a new Perodua Aruz starts from RM68,526 for the 1.5 X variant and RM73,226 for the 1.5 AV variant. Its price makes the Aruz among the most affordable seven-seater SUVs in the market.

Colors Available

The Perodua Aruz is available in five colors. Electric Blue Metallic, Granite Grey Metallic, Glittering Silver Metallic, and Ivory White Solid are available on both the 1.5 X and 1.5 AV while Passion Red Metallic is a color exclusive to the 1.5 AV variant.

Perodua Aruz Basic Features

Interior

The interior of the Perodua Aruz is largely similar between the two variants. However, the 1.5 AV does get better finishing and several additional features. For starters, both variants have separated front seats, slidable second-row seats with one-touch folding function, as well as separated and foldable third-row seats. The 1.5 AV gets leather seats while the 1.5 X gets fabric seats. Also, the gated gear shifts on the 1.5 AV has leather bezels while the 1.5 X has urethane bezels.

The 1.5 AV also gets auto light control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and “receive call” controls. Other common features are a digital air conditioner controller, rear air conditioning vents, power outlets for all rows, keyless entry with push start/stop button, reverse camera with guidelines, and a built-in toll reader.

Exterior

Both variants of the Perodua Aruz have LED headlights with follow-me-home function and light guides as well as LED tail and brake lights. They both also have a chrome and glossy-black finished front grille, side steps to help passengers get in and out, as well as a rear spoiler. The 1.5 AV has additional features including headlights with an auto-on function, front fog lamps, silver-painted diffuser on the front bumper, and roof rails which are not found on the 1.5 X variant.

Cabin Space

Thanks to its size and efficient design, the Perodua Aruz can fit seven adults comfortably. It measures 4,435 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, and 1,740 mm tall. Its boot can hold 213-liters with the third-row seats up and 514-liters with the third-row seats folded away. The second-row seats are also foldable for additional luggage space. Additionally, the Aruz has several flexible seating arrangements to accommodate items of various sizes and shapes.

Infotainment system

On the Aruz 1.5 X, the infotainment is controlled via a digital audio system with a resistive touch panel Bluetooth, USB, and MP3 functionality while on the 1.5 AV, it’s controlled via a more advanced multimedia system with additional features including navigation, Smart Link for Android devices, and HDMI port. Both variants have six speakers (four mid-range speakers and two tweeters), two USB ports, and two 12 V power sockets.

Perodua Aruz Driving Performance 

The Perodua Aruz is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder DOHC engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (Dual VVT-i). It produces a max power of 101 PS at 6,000 rpm and a max torque of 133 Nm at 4,200 rpm. It also boasts an impressive fuel economy for an SUV of its size at 6.4 L/100 km which is achieved thanks to Aruz’s Eco Idle system. The Aruz can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 15.7 seconds.

Perodua Aruz Safety Features

The Perodua Aruz is marketed as a family SUV and boasts a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating. It has a number of safety features that are greatly appreciated on a family vehicle including six airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), ISOFIX, seat belt reminder, anti-snatch hook, one-touch power window with jam protection, as well as solar and security window film. 

The 1.5 AV variant has additional safety features including an integrated Driving Video Recorder (DVR) and the Perodua Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0. A.S.A 2.0 includes Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misoperation Control. For the price, the Perodua Aruz provides an excellent safety suite not found in its competitors.

The Perodua Aruz is an economical seven-seater SUV with plenty of safety features making it an excellent family car. It might not be as comfortable and refined as its higher-priced competitors but its versatility, space, and fuel economy make it one of the best cars in its segment especially considering its price.
