For a vehicle that is designed for rugged terrains, there is nothing much to shout about the interior as Mitsubishi has blown all their budget for the features and exterior of the truck. It comes with bog standard leather seats and upholstery with piano black and chrome trims.

Exterior

Currently the facelifted version has most of its shiny, chrome materials swapped out in place for black matte plastic trims. In addition, the facelifted version is fitted with a more aggressive, boxy design. All variants come with Halogen headlights with the exception of the Athlete variant which comes with LED projector headlights. The Triton also comes with 18” Alloy wheels for the Athlete and A/T Premium. The M/T Premium gets 17” Alloy wheels while the A/T and M/T spec get 16” Alloy Wheels.

Cabin Space

The Triton has an overall length of 5,305 mm and a width of 1,815 mm. The M/T, A/T, and M/T Premium stands tall with a height of 1,780 mm while the A/T Premium and Athlete gets an extra 15 mm in height at 1,795 mm. The pickup has a curb weight of 1920 kg for the M/T and M/T Premium while the rest of the lineup has an extra 10 kg of weight at 1,930 kg. The Quest spec on the other hand sits smaller with a 5,220 mm length, 1,815 mm width, and 1,655 mm height.

All the Mitsubishi Tritons in Malaysia get a 6.1-inch infotainment screen as standard with the only exception of the M/T and A/T. For the A/T Premium and Athlete, both these specs get a 7-inch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Mitsubishi Triton Driving Performance

The Mitsubishi Triton is powered by the 2.4L, 4-cylinder MIVEC turbo diesel engine. It is capable of dishing out 181 PS/ 430 Nm of torque. For transmissions, only the M/T, M/T Premium, and Quest are available with a 6-speed Manual Transmission while the A/T, A/T Premium, and Athlete can be had with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode to send power to all four wheels.

For an off-road-ready pickup, the Triton is armed with a set of Independent, Wishbone suspension for the front and a Rigid, Elliptic Leaf Suspension at the rear. The wheels are also controlled by a rack and pinion steering wheel.

Mitsubishi Triton Safety Features

The Triton Athlete comes with Mitsubishi’s state of the art Mitsubishi Advanced Safety System (Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Auto High Beam, and 360-degree parking camera).

In addition, all specs come with ABS, Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System, Brake Assist, Stability Control, Traction control, Hill-start Assist, and Trailer stability assist. All in all, the Mitsubishi Triton has been a staple as a workhorse truck for Malaysians. It’s done everything from racing through the desert dunes of the Dakar Rally to traversing the harsh terrains of our tropical jungle and even for daily, commercial use. The Triton triumphs above all as an affordable performance machine packaged neatly inside a compact pickup truck.
