BMW Edit
The BMW X5 is a large, luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) aimed at families who require ample passenger room and cargo space in their vehicle. BMW introduced the hybrid version of the X5 in 2016 and it has since been the sole variant being offered in Malaysia. The BMW X5 goes against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 and Lexus RX300.
Variants
There is only one variant of the BMW X5 available in Malaysia: the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport, which is a petrol-powered plug-in hybrid.
Pricing
The price of the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport in Malaysia starts from RM451,447.
Colors Available
There are four colors available on the BMW X5. They are Black Sapphire metallic, Mineral White metallic, Phytonic Blue metallic, and Arctic Grey Brilliant Effect metallic.
Interior
The BMW X5 has a spacious interior with plenty of high-quality materials. It has Vernasca Black leather seat upholstery, Sensatec on the instrument panel, and “Fineline Stripe” fine-wood trims. Being an M Sport model, the X5 also has an M-branded steering wheel with sporty paddle shifters, M foot pedals, and M door sill panels. It also has automatic four-zone climate control, a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster with BMW Operating System 7, BMW head-up display, BMW Controller, optional panoramic glass roof, and optional fine glass trims on the gear selector lever.
Exterior
From the exterior, the X5 is an impressive-looking SUV. It has M Sport styling with large air intakes, 20-inch wheels with blue M-type brake calipers, as well as LED lighting all around, including Adaptive LED headlights with the BMW Selective Beam System. It also has a fully electric split tailgate that can open and close in two parts for easy loading and offloading.
Cabin Space
The BMW X5 measures 4,922 mm long, 2,004 mm wide, and 1,745 mm tall. Its large size allows it to have a spacious cabin and 500 liters of boot space, expandable to 1,720 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
Infotainment system
The 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display runs BMW’s iDrive software and is controllable with gesture controls, touch, or via the iDrive touch controller rotary knob. Complementing the infotainment display is an impressive 464-watt Harman Kardon 16-speaker sound system.
The BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The petrol engine produces 286 PS of max power from 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and 450 Nm of max torque from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm. The electric motor produces 113 PS of max power at 3,170 rpm and 265 Nm of max torque from 0 to 3,170 rpm. Combined, the powertrain on the X5 produces 394 PS of max power and 600 Nm of max torque. With the 24.0 kWh lithium-ion battery, the X5 can travel purely on electric energy up to 77 kilometers. Lastly, its combined fuel consumption is 2.5 L/100 km.
Besides the standard safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD), the BMW X5 has advanced safety features including Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Collision Prevention, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and passive cruise control. Also available is a 360-degree camera and reversing and parking assistant. However, the X5 does lack some advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features that some of its competitors have.
The BMW X5 offers excellent practicality, performance, and comfort in a handsome package. Despite being a large SUV, it’s also very fuel-efficient thanks to its hybrid powertrain. For buyers who are looking for a practical family SUV with premium build quality and ride comfort, the BMW X5 makes for a great choice.
