The BMW 3 Series is the go-to car for most buyers who are looking for a luxury executive sedan in Malaysia. Now in its seventh generation, the BMW 3 Series sedan continues to deliver the comfort and performance that buyers expect from it while also offering improvements in its space and interior quality. Competitors of the 3 Series include the Mercedes Benz C-Class and Audi A4.
Variants
There are two variants of the BMW 3 Series in Malaysia. They are the BMW 320i Sport and the BMW 330Li M Sport.
Pricing
The price of a new BMW 3 Series in Malaysia starts from RM249,389 for the BMW 320i Sport and RM296,639 for the BMW 330 Li M Sport.
Colors Available
The BMW 320i Sport is available in five colors: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, Phytonic Blue, and Sunset Orange. On the other hand, The BMW 330Li M Sport is available in Mineral White and Carbon Black.
Interior
The interior of the BMW 3 Series is spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped. Features include a high-resolution 12.3-inch instrument display, leather upholstery including a leather-wrapped steering wheel with hands-free controls, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, ambient lighting including ambient contour lighting on the front and rear doors, as well as front and rear center armrests. Both the driver and front passenger seats are power-adjustable with the driver’s seat having a memory function. There is also a BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant that can control various car functions and answer your questions via voice control.
Exterior
On the exterior, both variants of the BMW 3 Series have short overhangs and distinct lines that give them a sporty look. BMW’s signature kidney grille also flows seamlessly into the full-LED headlights which have auto cornering lights that turn according to the steering input. On the rear, there are sharp, L-shaped LED taillights with 3D optics.
Cabin Space
The BMW 320i Sport measures 4,709 mm long, 1,827 mm wide, and 1,435 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,851 mm. As the performance-oriented version, BMW has given the 330 Li M Sport a longer wheelbase at 2,951 mm. As a result, it measures 4,819 mm long, 1,827 mm wide, and 1,441 mm tall. Both variants have a cargo capacity of 480 liters.
Infotainment system
The BMW 3 Series has a high-resolution 10.25-inch Control Display touch screen infotainment display with Bluetooth, USB, and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It can also be used to display navigation and control other car functions. Besides touch input, the display can be operated via the iDrive Touch Controller rotary knob located beside the gear shift lever. The 320i Sport variant has six speakers while the 330Li M Sport has 10 speakers.
Despite having the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels, both variants of the BMW 3 Series differ in performance. The 320i Sport produces 184 PS of max power from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 300 Nm of max torque from 1,350 to 4,000 rpm. This leads to a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h. The 330 Li M Sport produces 258 PS of max power from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of max torque from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm, leading to a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
Safety features in the BMW 3 Series include six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TC), ISOFIX, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane-keeping Alert, Collision Warning, security alarm with immobilizer, as well as a reverse camera with parking and reversing assistant. However, the 3 Series does not have Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) features.
The BMW 3 Series is a great family sedan that offers a lot of space and good driving performance making it a solid choice for people who want a practical yet performance-oriented car. While it does not have ADAS like some of its competitors, its sporty styling, refined interior, and performance will definitely satisfy many buyers.
